WHAT IS A CUBIC METRE?

Imagine a cube, measuring 1 metre x 1 metre x 1 metre, filled with logs which have been tipped (not stacked) into it.

If it helps
... three and a half standard sized washing machines have a volume of one cubic metre.

Our white truck (Nissan Cabstar) holds two cubic metres.

Our black truck (Toyota Hilux) holds one cubic metre.

(See the pictures on the Homepage and DELIVERY page, and below.)

Logs should always be supplied by volume, according to the industry standards.

Builders Bags or "Dumpy" bags vary, but generally hold 0.5 or 0.6 of a cubic metre.

We find that good local suppliers of firewood generally have their prices in line with each other.  If it's too cheap, then there's a reason ... maybe poor quality firewood, unseasoned logs, a "mixed load" comprising mostly softwood, fresh arb waste even ... dumped on your driveway "sometime this week" ... as with most purchases, you get what you pay for!

Many firewood suppliers sell simply by "The Load".  So what is a load?  Similar question: How long is a piece of string?

Beware of the supplier with the "Two Tonne Trailer" or the "Three Tonne Truck" or worse still "the back of my van" .... This means nothing in terms of the amount of logs you will receive!

HOW DO I KNOW THAT I AM GETTING A CUBIC METRE?

We measure twice - firstly, by filling cubic metre purpose made vented bags, where the logs then remain until seasoned; secondly, our delivery trucks are measured and divided accordingly, so a full section is a full cubic metre.

(When neatly stacked, a cubic metre of loose logs will measure approximately 0.7 of a cubic metre.)

WHY DON'T YOU SELL BY WEIGHT?

Wetter logs will be heavier than dry seasoned ones ... so you would pay more for wet logs!  And the only way for a customer to check the weight they are receiving is correct is to use a weighbridge ...

NEVER BUY LOGS BY WEIGHT!

UK law states that logs must not be sold by weight.

WHAT DO I GET IN AN EASY BAG?

An Easy Bag holds one fifth of a cubic metre.

IS IT CHEAPER TO BUY A LARGER QUANTITY OF LOGS?

Yes, it is.  Our truck holds two cubic metres of logs, so that is our most cost effective quantity.  Delivering smaller amounts of logs means using more fuel and more time, so when we can save these by delivering in larger quantities, we pass that saving onto the customer.
